| The wines of Burgundy are made from one type of grape versus Bordeaux where blends of grapes are the rule. The term Claret is generally understood as a description of a red wine from the Bordeaux district. Red wine from Bordeaux is made with principally Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. A red Meritage is made from at least two of these grapes (or the less known St. Macaire, Gros Verdot, and Carmenere)

| In Spanish tempranillo means early, which is why the grape was given that name, because it ripens earlier than most red varietals. The nose is of very ripe blackberries mingled with red and black stone fruit like plums and prunes. The dark purple wine fills the palate a medley of intensely ripe fruit admixed with minerals, licorice and leather.
